The program to create comics. Programs for creating comics: what are they

Are you inspired by your favorite comic? In order to create your own, start to improve your drawing style. Then create a set of amazing characters, take a story from the story, then use a pencil and ink to inspire your story. Almost done! It remains to decorate, to get brighter!

  • Comics usually use creative and dramatic panels. Do not be afraid to experiment with different ways of organizing and forming such panels when you draw comics.
  • One easy way to recruit characters is to start using you, your enemies, and your friends, then illustrate and exaggerate character traits, etc.
  • Photocopiers have been used by comic artists / cartoonists for years to save a tremendous amount of time. You need to be more careful with the drawing on the pencil stage because your artwork can be changed, copied, erased. Photocopiers can be used to zoom in and out. If you used white paint or another type of liquid on paper products to correct your work, you must first copy the page to make a fixed version without unnecessary relief or shine of the correction fluid.
  • Many prefer to work hard. This makes it easier to work on the details. Feel free to work on larger paper, but do not forget to work proportionately more! Remember that you will need to reduce to the finished size before it is printed.
  • Content should be directed to the appropriate age group.
  • Ask friends for help.
  • Try to collect thumbnails of images separately using a scanner and photoshop.
  • Recently, computers are used in many areas of production. You can digitize your work and distribute it on the Internet.
  • Colorful fill can be made by software like MangaStudio, after scanning your thumbnail. In fact, the entire comic could be done on a computer if you use a special pen and tablet.

If you wish, you can even create your own original characters. We recommend using one of 10 useful and convenient online tools from this collection.

Make Beliefs Comix

Date: July 10, 2015 /

Hello! I have great news: I open a series of articles in which I will tell you how to create your first comic. Today we will talk about the content of the cycle and at the same time consider the process of creating a comic from idea to publication. And if you think that you don’t need your comics, here are 8 reasons why you should draw your comics

But first, a couple of reservations, well, or conventions:

  • First, I consider the situation from the point of view that you are an individual creator, and not a team of enthusiasts, for example, refer to the article preparing the workplace, or to creating and drawing characters, and, well, on trifles;
  • Secondly, we will mainly talk about web space and this means that the stage of contacting a publisher, pre-printing, printing, distribution, etc. will not be considered here.

Block A: preparation

Block B: draw, draw, draw

Block B: the whole world

The idea from the beginning to the winning final

So, in order to create your comic book, you should start with an idea. I give a tooth, you have a long story in your head that you already loved and became the first fan, but the problem is: “How to tell everyone this cool story and what would it be beautiful / cool / epic / romantic / etc.? ". This question will be answered in one of the following articles.

Already before starting work on the comic, you need to know how it will end, then, for example, you can enter characters that supposedly influenced the behavior of our heroes from the first pages, although you just now came up with “this guy”.

We'll talk about cliches in the world of comics and how to start stories or end them is definitely not worth it.

We create the world, we fill it with life and characters

Like the finished play, our plot is ready, and now it’s time to look for a theater to put it into practice and create scenery. Of course, I'm talking about the creation of a world in which events will unfold and where the heroes of your story live.

I put into the concept of a “worked world” the history of its origin, the recent past and the near future, after or during the journey of our heroes, the description of the conventions of the world and the unbreakable foundations of the universe.

It may seem that I am only talking about epic tales, and you have a “little story about you and your friend,” well, or something like that. The setting, i.e. the environment must always be present and well-researched. Describe the place in which your character lives, his neighbors, his attitude towards them and them towards him, think of something unusual that our hero can observe every day in the yard or, on the contrary, something familiar to everyone, so the reader will think: “Yes , it already got me too! ”. This will give your world an atmosphere and make it "real."

Just do not forget all, all, all possible heroes that may arise throughout history, mention them! At this stage it is not necessary to prescribe them far and wide, no, just weave them into the plot outline somehow like this: “And then they met N, who would later betray them, but introduce them to T, and he would help the heroes to complete the task.<…>  Then N is aware of his wrong, but it will be too late ”, etc.

Even if you still do not know how to write this or that hero in your story, you still make yourself a mark in the margins or anywhere else that you want to introduce it, and where and when you think of it later.

We invent unique and inimitable characters

It is here that we will deal closely with your newly made heroes and villains. Let's talk about the psycho characters, cliches, and those "unique" that dilute the surrounding atmosphere. We will also touch on the theme of unique accessories that create a unique image of the hero, about clothes, hairstyle, emotions, etc. And at the end we will begin to draw each hero “from” and “to”, repeating the image time after time to hone the skill and create a “road map” for subsequent replication of the hero in any posture and with any facial expression.

In each of your actors you have to breathe life and a piece of yourself. A well-developed character, not cardboard, interesting and thoughtful - the success that will lift you to the Olympus of comic book fame ... well, or in any case will help to take the first steps. When you create a unique character that your audience likes so much that you start getting fan drawings, you can assume that you coped with your task;)

Turn the plot into a script

Yes, for those who may not have suspected, writing a plot is not all, there is a script after it. “And what is the difference?” To ask someone, but actually in the assignments of these works.

In the plot we describe the situations, the relationship of the characters to them, how events develop, and all scenes are strictly written in the script ( that's why he is called), which will be present in the comic, with dialogues and actions.

Let's look at an example: “The sun was setting over the horizon. Standing on a rocky cliff, Juno looked down and thought about the consequences of a possible misfire in such a steep place. After standing like this for five minutes, she turned around and returned to the camp to her friends, ”we clearly see the picture, but“ WE ”is each of us in our own way.

Therefore, when converting one to another, you get something like the following: “Frame 1. The sun is half hidden behind the horizon. Frame 2. Juno stands on a cliff, bottom view from the abyss, Juno's glance is directed at the reader, i.e. down the cliff. Frame 3. Top view of Juno and the cliff, Juno's thought-bubble “Yes, to break away from here, you will not wish anyone!”. Frame 4. The view at ¾ Juno leaves the cliff, the thought bubble “Enough to look at it, they have been waiting for me in the camp for five minutes.”

I think now the difference between the plot and the script is clear. In the article we will take a closer look at how different situations in the script are described and most importantly, from what point you can start drawing and stop dying over the text :)

We divide the script into frames - storyboards

A storyboard is a schematic drawing of an embodying scenario. A set of pictures which shows all these "Frame 1", "Frame 2", etc. Admission is usually attributed to the animation and the process of making films, but to us, the comicists, it helps a lot.

Of course there is no special trick to storyboards, but there are always rules, usefulness, tricks and tips. For example, you should not feed the reader with the same species over and over again, you need to change the perspective points, the camera, the angle of view, etc. The easiest way to do this is on schematic drawings, approving that you can already create a full frame.

Also in this article we will talk about what format of pages to choose for your comics.

Distribute cues and create text bubbles

Now, after we have painted the story in the script, have drawn the storyboards, you can and ... wait a little more before you start drawing and text. And you thought that comics are just drawing? Oh, there is no ability to draw this is one of the most important skills that lies on the surface, but how much routine it is behind it is horrible.

“That's why, why text first, and only then draw?”  - you ask. And in order to draw less. According to the rules of building a comic book ( which tol and I remembered, either thought up just) it is not the text that is placed in the text bubble, but the bubble is drawn around the text, thus it is necessary to allocate space for the dialogues before starting the “serious” work.

And, yes, the dialogues in the comics are not the same as in the book / story, brevity is needed here, but capacity, directness and ambiguity at the same time ... well, and a lot more. Details of this touch in the article itself.

And now about why the text is first, and then the drawing: a lot of space is usually allocated for text bubbles, and they cover part of the background, sometimes characters, which you can (!) Not draw, and therefore reduce the amount of work! Cool I came up with yes? Come on, kidding, kidding.

Drawing a frame from the toe to the top of the head

Now the magic begins! That most disgusting, scary, wildly complex magic! That is the time when you will need all of your not hefty talent and skill, perseverance and patience, and also, if you are very passionate about, many sleepless hours.

No, I do not frighten you, but I say, as it is, until exactly until you get used to drawing so much that the characters from your pen will no longer come out casually and with difficulty, but easily and accurately. Yes, when you get used to this work, then with each release, the page or frame will get better and better and bring a huge amount of pleasure ( in fact, this is not true = /).

In one of the article we will look at line-art and color, and light and shadow, let's talk about all the stages that each drawing goes through, I will give some practical recommendations on how to bleed the drawing skills and increase the speed of work on each frame.

We select the feed and "pack" comics

Now you need to combine all our frames into pages, chapters, sections, and other bizarre formations, and if you think that the layout of frames into pages is simpler than a faded turnip, then do not rush to conclusions.

The position of frames sets the dynamics of our history, a large number of frames indicates a slow history, large frames indicate importance, etc. Here the book will help us a lot. Scott McCloud Comic Book Theoryin which just a gigaton of useful tips for the comic book.

I have already published an article where I briefly reviewed which elements should be present in the design of the comic, but this time we’ll stop in detail and prepare several copies from the network of the Western and Russian, because everything depends on the goal.

If you want to be "serious", then you can even wrap your comic in pdf and distribute it for money, or simply increase the reach of the audience, the only question is what is the point? Well, that is, you must first answer this question, and then indulge in all serious things.

  Choosing a site for publication

And finally, this moment has come! Yes, now you can show your creation to the world and compete for your piece of fame on Olympus Comics Building - the Internet ... Well, are we still talking about web comics? =)

Site selection is quite a crucial step, since you will have a long and serious relationship with the resource on which you post your story, because transferring comics from the site to the site is not beautiful, and, frankly, uncomfortable.

We will look at a few examples of domestic comic book aggregators, talk about the West, if you suddenly wanted to do comics in a foreign language and also raise the issue of creating your own web comic site, because a unique domain name corresponding to the name of the comic raises its authority in the eyes of readers.

And this will be the final article, by the time of the release of which I already hope to present the first results of my work)

That’s basically all, my announcements for future articles, as well as a detailed plan for creating my first comic strip. Let's once again to fix:

  1. Preparing the workspace
  2. We come up with an idea, create a conflict
  3. We describe the plot from the plot to the final
  4. We describe the main characters in all colors
  5. We draw the characters, including unique things and emotions
  6. We translate the plot into the script
  7. Drawing storyboards
  8. We put the text in the storyboards and make out the visual effects
  9. Frame drawing
  10. Layout of all frames into pages
  11. Page layout (feed)
  12. Assembly of all pages together (files in a folder or pdf)
  13. Publication on the resource

Do not forget to subscribe to updates so as not to miss this series of articles!

P.S. Guys, I’m a pretty plump man, I love sweets, and indeed all the "harmful" food, but then I rummaged around the net and found a website on which, as the creators say, they will be able to free me from sweet addiction)) I'm going to try, oh who is with me?))

Today, all, all creative mood friends!
